Anatomical Breast Implants

Breast augmentation surgery is one that takes a lot of different considerations into it. There are many different options available today that every person should consult with their board certified plastic surgeon about before planning the surgery.

One of the options that one should discuss with their surgeon is the shape of the breast implant. You have the option of round or anatomical shapes when it comes to the breast implant.

Another name for the popular anatomical implant is the teardrop shape. This design of implant was created to give the effect of a naturally sloping breast. The overall volume of the anatomical implant greatly exceeds the volume found in other round breast implants. Most of the volume in anatomical implants is in the lower part of the implant following breast augmentation surgery.

Anatomical breast implants generally come in a textured skin form. This texture is supposed to help keep the implant from turning or shifting after the surgery is complete. The surface texture on the shell of the implant helps the surrounding tissue to adhere to the implant and this is what keeps the implant in place.

The cost of the anatomical implant is generally higher than that of the other round implants. Most cosmetic surgeons find it harder to work with the textured shell so this is generally why they opt to use other types of implants than those of the anatomical ones.

One downside to the anatomical breast implants is that if the implants so happen to shift or turn than the cosmetic plastic surgeon will need to perform another cosmetic surgery to correct this. As with the first surgery the recovery time will be a little longer than that of other implants. As with any type of breast implant there is generally more than one surgery involved in the lifetime of the patient.
